The data of U.S. users will be moved to the United States. A report claimed that TikTok staff in China had access to its U.S. users' data as recently as this January.
TikTok employees in the US consulted with their colleagues in China to understand how U.S. user data flowed because they didn't havemission or knowledge, according to a report.
The report quoted an unnamed member of TikTok's Trust and Safety department as saying that "everything is seen in China".
The report casts doubt on the firm's relationship with Beijing, as well as its public comments about its U.S. unit.
The U.S. officials have been concerned that the Chinese government might be able to see the data TikTok collects from Americans and other users. In September 2020, the Trump administration decided to bar the Chinese-owned mobile apps from the U.S. app stores.
India banned Chinese-owned apps due to national security concerns.
TikTok and its parent firm ByteDance have said that they will not hand over user data to the U.S. The firm explored selling stakes to U.S. investors in response to Trump's order.
The Biden administration replaced the Trump-era executive order with one that called for a broader review of foreign-controlled apps that could pose a security threat to Americans.
In a Friday post, TikTok said that 100 percent of U.S. user traffic is going to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We still use our U.S. and Singapore data centers for backups, but as we continue our work, we expect to remove U.S. users' private data from our own data centers.
The two firms were close to a deal, according to a report.
TikTok is making operational changes, including establishing a U.S.-based leadership to solely manage U.S. user data.
There is more we can do. We aim to remove any doubts about the security of US user data because we know we are among the most scrutinized platforms.
TikTok did not reply to a request for comment.
