According to several outlets, Peter Navarro pleaded not guilty to two charges of contempt of Congress over his refusal to cooperate with a House committee.
He was indicted earlier this month for refusing to appear in front of the committee or turn over documents.
There is a maximum prison sentence of two years and a fine of up to $200,000 for Navarro.
A November 17 trial date has been set by the judge.
He was subpoenaed by the January 6 panel after he wrote in his book that he worked to overturn the results of the election. The House of Representatives voted to hold him in contempt for not complying with the subpoena. Only two people have been charged with criminal contempt of Congress over the January 6 House probe. The charges were thrown out by a federal judge.
When he arrived at the court on Friday, he told reporters all would be revealed.
