During Pub Pride, a night of celebration to kick-off Pride month in hundreds of venues across the UK, a man told Ask For Clive organizers that he had been waiting for this all his life.

The charity is called Ask for Clive. Inclusive establishments are asked to put a sticker on their door with the charity name on it. A brief is provided for bar staff on how to deal with discrimination.

Ask ForAngela is a campaign that encourages people who feel unsafe at a bar to ask the staff for help. If people see the sticker, they'll know the pub is gay.

According to data collected by Vice, there has been a fourfold increase in transphobia hate crimes in the UK. The Ask For Clive initiative is needed more than ever.

Pub Pride is a yearly event run by Ask For Clive. Over 250 venues across the UK hosted live music, drag shows, karaoke, street art, and of course food and drinks. Middle-aged queer people who walk to a pub were part of the celebrations.

When Ask for Clive started, co-founder and chair Danny Clare said there was no visible queer population at the time. The city had a queer population but no community or activities for them.

Everyone in the room had been abused while trying to enjoy nightlife in pubs, clubs, and bus stops.

We decided to do something about it. He and others went to the pub owners to talk about the issues. They used the popular "Ask For" format and created a sticker with a pride flag and a message that everyone is welcome here.

Ask For Clive was featured on local television and radio stations. The campaign sticker is on the doors of over 3000 establishments. Ask For Clive celebrates gay clubs in major cities as well as pubs in rural areas.

"We touch places where you wouldn't expect to see a flag like that," she said. It's a great sight for people in the community.

The LGBT group within the UK veterans' association is one of the places Ask For Clive works with.

Positive feedback from Pub Pride, as well as feedback for the campaign overall, were described by the woman. The values of the place on the front door make it a more desirable place to work in. It is definitely a more welcoming place.

Ask For Clive is interested in expanding outside the UK. There are plans to expand and make the charity bigger. The venues that welcome the queer community are the focus of Ask For Clive at the moment.
