There are a number of new features and upgrades to be found in the next version of the mobile operating system, which is called Android 13. We've been playing with it for a while and it's more evolution than revolution. There won't be any changes.

The official version will probably be rolled out in August or September. We'll keep updating this story as new perks arrive, and we rounded up many of the top new features here. Instructions on how to download it are available if you can't wait to try it yourself.

How to download the newest version of the mobile operating system.

You'll need a phone that's eligible for the operating system of your choice, or a phone that's newer than the one you're using. There is a list of manufacturers that have a device that can run the new software. You can enroll in the program if your device supports it.

If you sign up, you can download and install the latest version of the software as an over-the-air update, but beware: it can be unstable and glitchy. If you don't back up your phone before you enroll, there's a chance you'll lose data.

If you have the latest version, you can always check to see if the new updates pop up. Do you want to go back to the original version of the operating system? To find your device, scroll to the bottom of the page and hit "opt out". Make sure you back up your device because this will involve wiping local saved data. An update prompt will let you go back to the older version.

More colors are supported in the theme options in the new edition of the mobile operating system. You can choose from four wallpaper colors and four basic colors, but there are 16 of each in the newer version of the operating system. You can find the new color theme options by going to the settings and selecting Wallpaper and style. You should see more themed icons if you switch to them. It is not just GOOGLE and system app icons that are being encouraged to be created.

Privacy improved.

There are improvements to the operating system that limit what you can do. Images, video, or audio files will be categorized when an app asks for permission to view media files. You don't have to give access to all of your photos with the new photo picker. It's possible to specify which photos and videos an app can access, instead of allowing it to dive into your entire photo library.

Permission to track location was granted when an app was enabled to scans for nearby wi-fi devices. Thankfully, that is no longer the case, as there is now a separate nearby wi-fi devices permission option. The Privacy dashboard, which displays all the apps that have access to the camera, microphone, location, and other permission over the last 24 hours, can now show history from the last seven days.

Better copy and paste.

This is courtesy of the internet.

A small floating panel appears at the bottom of the screen when you copy something, and you can change it. Sometimes, you will see options that are relevant. You can open a URL if you copy it. No more having to email yourself from phone to tablet because you can paste on another nearby device. The clipboard may be set to be deleted after a while.

There are fewer notifications.

The notifications can be sent by default when you install an app on your phone. That is turned on its head by the 13th edition of the mobile operating system. Before notifications can be sent, apps must ask for permission.

The support for tablets is better.

There are a number of changes coming in the next version of the software designed to make life simpler with larger screens. There's a taskbar at the bottom with frequently used apps, a two-column arrangement for quick settings and notifications, and easier drag-and-drop multitasking with the option to pin app pairs. When you start playing a movie on your slate, your wireless earbuds will switch from phone to tablets, because we're expecting support for Wear OS, which will enable it.

Changes to more than 20 of its apps will be rolled out this summer, including a redesign of the interface that makes use of larger screens.

It is already supported for one-to-one chats, but with the addition of end-to-end encryption for group chats, it will be even better.
