Delta Air Lines pilots said they were flying a record amount of overtime due to the airline industry's struggles.
In an open letter to customers, pilots said they were just as frustrated as the passengers.
They said they were discouraged when they saw the impact of disrupted travel plans.
"We have been working on our days off, flying a record amount of overtime to help you get to your destination, and we want you to know that," it said.
By this fall, our pilots will have flown more overtime than in the entire of the previous two years.
We sympathize with you over the delays, cancellation, and disrupted travel plans you have experienced. It is not acceptable.
Delta needs to work harder so customers don't lose confidence, according to the pilots.
We will do everything we can to ensure the integrity of the operation when you join us. Delta's management needs to do the same thing.
Delta has been contacted about the letter.
The US has seen a lot of flight delays and canceled flights this year.
In a move similar to other airlines, Delta recently decided to cancel around 100 daily departures in the US and Latin America.
