How much does it cost to purchase Iberia Avios?

The cost per Avios varies based on how many you buy, but the more you buy, the cheaper it is. In normal circumstances, Iberia Plus charges as little as 1.8 cents per Avios, before taking in any bonuses or discounts.

The best way to get the best price is to use the euro rather than the US dollar. This 50% bonus offer is a good one.

• If you bought 300,000 Avios (including the bonus) in USD you’d pay $5,523
• If you bought 300,000 Avios (including the bonus) in EUR you’d pay €3,601, which is ~$3,790; that’s a huge difference

Which credit card should you buy Iberia Avios with?

Airfare purchases are not counted as credit card spending because they are not processed by points.com. If you want to maximize your return on everyday spending, you should use a credit card that maximizes your return on daily spending.

The Capital One Venture rewards credit card has 2x miles and no foreign transaction fees. The Chase Freedom unlimited card is a good option for maximizing everyday spending, but the cards have foreign transaction fees, so it wouldn't be a good option in this situation.

Is buying Iberia Plus Avios worth it?

If you want to redeem them for travel on Iberia, or if you want to transfer them to British Airways Executive Club, I would think about buying Iberia PlusAvios. It's an excellent value to redeem avios for long haul flights.

You can redeem for a one-way off-peak business class ticket from Chicago or New York to Madrid for just 34,000Avios. Business class awards are one of my favorite uses of Iberia.

American Airlines is a oneworld partner airline. It could be a great deal for domestic flights in the US. When it comes to redemptions, British Airways has more restrictions than Iberia, which is why I generally recommend transferringAvios to British Airways.

Tip: Transfer Avios to British Airways

If you have had both accounts open for at least 90 days, and the accounts have some activity, you can transfer the Avios between the two accounts. If you are aware of the restrictions on transfers, this could be a good opportunity to buy British Airways Avios at a discounted price.

I value the points currency at 1.3 cents per point. I value points conservatively, and there are many ways to get more value from the airline.

Do Iberia Avios expire?

After 36 months of being inactive, the Iberia PlusAvios will no longer be valid. It should be easy to keep your points alive since any account activity that includes earning or redeemingAvios would reset the expiration of your points.
