Jerry Jones said that Mike McCarthy was fined for violating rules for the second year in a row.
McCarthy was fined $100,000 and the Cowboys were docked an organized team activity because they held practices that were too physical. The organization did not have to pay a fine.
The Cowboys and McCarthy were fined $100,000 and $50,000, respectively, a year ago for the same reasons. The Dallas Cowboys were fined and had an on-field training camp taken away for violating the rules. The San Francisco 49ers were fined $100,000, the organization was fined $100,000, and the former coach of the 49ers was fined $100,000.
McCarthy cut the Cowboys' mandatory mini camp down from three practices to one, but that didn't affect the penalty. The Cowboys held a team-building event at Topgolf on Wednesday and the veterans were excused from work on Thursday while the rookies had their final weight- lifting session.
McCarthy said that the biggest factor in cutting the minicamp short was the starting line and finishing line. Spending final time with the rookies was the focus of the day. They had the chance to get their final lift in for this week, spend a lot of time with the assistant coaches, and focus on the five-week plan that is in front of them. Everything we wanted to do in the off-season was done and the focus is on their individual plan.
