"If someone can only work remotely, and they're exceptional, it wouldn't make sense to fire them," Musk said

The work at Musk's company is not the same as the work at the micro-blogging site. He said that it's not possible to make cars remotely.

While his comments may be promising for those who want to keep working remotely, Musk did not provide details on how he'd handle it if he completes the acquisition. His reference to allowing "exceptional" employees to work remotely suggests that a Musk-ledTwitter might reduce remote work options even if they aren't completely banned.

According to CNN, Musk said during the town hall that there is a hit that one takes remotely. Even if someone is working from home, they have to come in to see their coworkers. If someone is exceptional then remote work can be good for me.

Musk's remote work memos

About two weeks ago, Musk sent similar memos to all of the workers at both companies, telling them they had to be in the office at least 40 hours a week. Musk said in the memo that everyone at the company had to spend at least 40 hours a week in the office. It's important that the office is where your actual coworkers are located. We will assume you have left if you don't show up.

If there are particularly exceptional contributors for whom this is not possible, I will approve those exceptions directly. The email did not refer to exceptions.

The decisions about where you work, whether you feel safe traveling for business, and what events you attend should be yours. Our approach remains the same. Wherever you feel most productive and creative is where you will work.

About 1,500 of the company's employees work remotely, according to the Chief Marketing Officer who moderated the meeting. A total of 8,000 employees work for the social networking site.

Musk wants 1 billion Twitter users

When asked if he plans to lay off employees, Musk didn't rule out the possibility. He said that it was not a good situation to be in because of the costs. Anyone who is a significant contributor should have no reason to be concerned.

According to a report, Musk said he would like to have at least a billion people using the service. He said that he would like to include as much of the country as possible.

He said it would be an "immense success" if we could achieve that or even get close to it.

Musk talks "freedom of speech and freedom of reach"

Musk wants to protect free speech on the micro-blogging site. He acknowledged that there needs to be some limits so that users will be comfortable on the site.

He said there was freedom of speech and reach. It's possible to go into the middle of Times Square and say whatever you want. It doesn't mean that denying the Holocaust should be promoted to millions of people. I don't think people should be allowed to say things that are outside the bounds of the law.

Musk said he wants to "drive the product in a particular direction."

If you're the CEO, there's a lot of work to be done. People need to listen to me, but I don't care what the title is.

Musk has been wavering on his commitment to buy the social networking site. He didn't give a firm update on the acquisition's likelihood on Thursday.
