There was a request for a presidential pardon by a conservative lawyer after the Capitol attack.
Rudy Giuliani was asked to be placed on the pardon list.
During the hearing on Thursday, the email was revealed.
The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack revealed on Thursday that a key figure pushing a plan to overturn the 2020 election asked President Donald Trump's personal lawyer to put him on a presidential pardon list.
According to the committee's findings, Eastman told Giuliani that he should be on the pardon list. The email was read by a lawmaker during the hearing.
He did not get a pardon. In his deposition to the committee, he repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment.
"I assert my Fifth Amendment right against being forced to testify against myself," he said in his recorded testimony.
The committee's argument was that the pro-Trump lawyer's request for a pardon and his refusal to testify violated the law.
After the 2020 election, Eastman was working with the legal team. He's known for drafting a two-page memo that outlined an effort to convince then-Vice President Mike Pence to block the 2020 election certification on January 6.
The January 6 committee heard testimony from Greg Jacob, who said that the plan was illegal before January 6. On January 6th, Trump continued to pressure the Vice President to subvert the constitution and reject the election certification.
The committee revealed that several other Trump officials, including the White House chief of staff, knew that the electoral votes could not be thrown out.
