Europe appeared to be an outlier when venture funding began to decline around the world. The region recorded strong Q1 numbers and was one of the few markets to see growth over the course of the year. Europe has seen its funding decline at a faster rate than other regions since the market peaked.

Europe's venture capital decline was not reported. The Q1 totals were masked due to a strong funding environment in January. The region saw $13 billion invested in January, $9.3 billion in February, and $8.9 billion in March.

April funding totals were down 12.3% from March and May was down 16.7% from April. The first two months of the second quarter show that June is likely to slide.
