In his first media session in five months, Lamar Jackson offered little clarity about his contract situation or how he would handle the lack of a new deal before training camp or the start of the season

Jackson said a variation of "We're having a conversation about it" eight times during his news conference.

When asked if he thought he would play in Baltimore for the rest of his career, he expressed confidence.

Jackson said he expected so. I do.

Jackson's fifth-year option is worth $23.016 million. The Ravens are expected to use the franchise tag on Jackson in order to keep him from becoming a free agent.

Jackson missed the three weeks of organized team activities for the first time in his career but said his absence was not related to his contract. He had not been to the Ravens' facility since the season ended five months ago.

If he didn't receive a new deal, he gave conflicting messages.

Jackson was asked if he would play in the first week of the season without a contract.

Jackson was asked if he'd show up for training camp and play the season without an extension. We are talking about it. He did not know.

Jackson didn't sound like he was thinking of a holdout during the interview. He said he will have a meeting with his wide receiver and tight ends at Florida Atlantic.

Jackson said they're going to work and watch some film to build their chemistry. The football season is about to start. We're going to work hard.

Jackson doesn't believe that the narrative that he should stay away from the field unless he gets a new deal because of his dual-threat style is true.

Jackson is a football player. I'm here for that.

Jackson didn't think that Deshaun's contract would affect his situation. A fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract is $80 million more guaranteed than any other contract in the history of the league.

Jackson said he's a man of his own. I don't pay attention to what those guys get.

Ravens officials have said for a long time that Jackson has shown no desire to negotiate. Jackson said he had a discussion with the team about his contract.

Jackson gained 15 lbs of muscle mass to increase his weight to 220 lbs. Without Marquise Brown, he showed instant chemistry with the wide receiver group, throwing the ball with more speed and accuracy.

John Harbaugh said that he was happy to see that. How was it going to look? It's exciting to see how well he threw the ball and how good he looked.

The contact situation will not distract Jackson, according to the Ravens.

James Urban said that he is a master of that. He's great at concentrating on the task at hand.
