The New York Times reported that the Vice President had the power to overturn the election, but Trump denied that.

The statement was "categorically untrue" according to the testimony of the former chief of staff for the vice president.

The January 6 riot was caused by the fact that Trump did not have the power to overturn the election results.

Trump told a crowd of supporters at the Ellipse that he would be "very disappointed" if the vice president did not block the certification. Many of the people at the rally went on to storm the Capitol. Thursday's hearing is the third from the January 6 committee this month, and is focused on Trump's effort to get the election results thrown out.
