According to testimony the January 6 committee played at a hearing, Donald Trump was advised before the January 6 riot that a plan for Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of the 2020 presidential election results was unconstitutional.

In a deposition, Short said that Pence told Trump he didn't have the power to stop Congress from certifying the election results.

The president was warned by a right-wing legal scholar that he would be in violation of the Electoral Count Act if he interfered in the certification.

Trump told a crowd of supporters that if he didn't block the certification, he would be very disappointed in him.

The hearing focuses on Trump's "relentless effort" to get Pence to overturn Biden's victory in the election. The first and second hearings focused on the actions of rioters storming the Capitol, while the third was about Trump ignoring his advisors.
