The Chicago Bears wore jerseys with Brian Piccolo's name on them on the final day of mini camp. Piccolo played for the Bears from 1966 to 1969 and passed away at the age of 26. The movie "Brian's Song" tells the story of his friendship with Bears Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers. The 50th anniversary of Piccolo's death was supposed to be honored by the Bears, but they didn't have enough time to practice. On this day 52 years ago we lost Brian Piccolo. Today, all 90 players are wearing 41 to honor him. pic.twitter.com/OFLIfKAJoJ
The main message was to honor the legacy of Brian Piccolo. It's hard for people to see the impact of Brian Piccolo, who was there in the late 60's. I don't think about his death. Today, I read the award to the players.
He was a really good teammate and he liked to have fun with his teammates. There is a real man and a real person. I wanted to make sure they were aware of that.
The Brian Piccolo Award is given to one rookies and one veterans who best exemplifies the courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication and sense of humor of the former running back. This year's recipients were both running backs.
