Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, will be invited to testify about her involvement in efforts to reverse Donald Trump's presidential election loss.
The committee had obtained emails between her and a lawyer who was advising Trump on the 2020 election, according to a report.
The plan was to have Trump and others pressure Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of President Joe Biden.
The third public hearing of the panel will focus on details of Trump's pressure on the vice president.
Shortly before the scheduled start of the hearing, the committee's chair, Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told reporters that it was time for Ginny Thomas to speak to the committee.
Thompson said that the invitation is based on what they have learned. The invitation to Thomas will be issued in the next few weeks, according to him.
Thompson said, "Well, we'll see what happens." We will leave from there.
The aide to Cheney said that she agrees that it is time for Thomas to be interviewed.
According to reports, Cheney had been against calling in Thomas to testify.
The Washington Post said that Thomas' involvement in the bid to reverse Trump's loss was more extensive than had been previously known.
According to the New York Times, Eastman told another pro-Trump lawyer and Trump campaign officials in December of 2020 that there was a fight among Supreme Court justices over whether to consider cases related to the election.
Justice Thomas had a clerk named Eastman.
