There is a rumour going around that there are hidden cameras in a Philadelphia rental.

"Be sure to book air cabins!" Several videos of the purported cameras were included in the renter's viral post, which read, "My friend and I stayed in Philadelphia with over 10 hidden cameras all over the house." The shower and bedrooms are included. There were some sprinkler systems that were not real.

The company said there were no hidden cameras. The Special Victims Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department found no evidence of illegal activity at the property.

Virality Bites

Home-share company maintains that there are few instances of hidden cameras. In March of last year, a TikTok was created by a controversial ex-hacker that claimed to show viewers how to detect hidden cameras inAirbnbs.

That sounds helpful in theory, but a quick scroll through the TikTok's comments showed it caused many viewers to develop anxiety about something they hadn't considered.

One person said that they unlocked a new fear.

The renter who made the allegations says she called the police, who didn't respond immediately, and reached out toAirbnb before she took the story to social media. She says she's getting messages from people who think she's lying.

She asked if she was getting hate messages because she was scared.

We are happy that there seems to have been no cameras. It's upsetting to see her under attack for a fear that internet culture has perpetuated.
