Microsoft is launching a new app that protects against cyberattacks. While the software giant has used the name "Defender" for its antivirus protection for years, this new cross- platform Microsoft Defender app is designed for individuals as more of a simplified dashboard that taps into existing antivirus software or offers additional device protections

The features of Microsoft Defender will be different for each platform. There is no antivirus protection on iPadOS, and the app offers some webPhishing protections instead, along with a dashboard that includes alert for other devices.

The ability to scans for malicious apps is included in Microsoft's defense against malicious apps. Links will be scanned to offer protection from web swastikas. The built-in Windows Security app is not replaced by Microsoft Defender on Windows. You can view your existing protection from any of the vendors.

The security tips are only available on Windows and macOS and are not available on other devices.

It will be useful for those who want to protect family members and multiple devices in a simple dashboard. More features are on the way from Microsoft.

The expansion of our security portfolio with Microsoft Defender for individuals is the natural and exciting progression in our journey as a security company. It's just the beginning. Identity theft protection and secure online connection will be included under a single dashboard as we look forward.
