Astros pitchers throw immaculate innings against same 3 hitters (0:55)

The same three hitters were thrown against by Luis and Phil Maton. It was :55.

5:54 PM ET

After a big opening offensive outburst for the Astros, starter Luis Garcia and relief pitcher Phil Maton each threw a perfect ninth.

Martin was in the middle of it all.

The Astros scored six runs in the first on manager Dusty Baker's 73rd birthday and catcher Martin Maldonado had a two-run double and a solo home run.

To be a part of that. "I'm glad I was catching in that situation, I didn't remember ever being part of an inn of two in a row," he said.

It hadn't been like that in a while. We struck them out back-to-back with nine pitches. It was a nice day.

The pitcher fanned nine without a walk and limited Texas to two runs and four hits in a six-inning outing. He struck out Nathaniel Lowe, Brad Miller, and Ezequiel Duran in a row after only nine pitches.

The first three hitters Maton faced were the ones he replaced.

Miller said they knew they were cruising well. I would have liked to have taken better swings.

It was the first time in major league history that there had been two flawless days in a row. Both of them were twirled by the Astros, moving them into a tie for most with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.

On April 17 at Baltimore, the New York Yankees starter was the only one who did not allow a single run.

When Maton finished off his nine-strikeninginning, no one thought there had been another one. The catcher heard people yelling for the ball when he threw it to Alex.

"I said what happened after the guys erupted and I was talking to the guys in the locker room," he said.

The pitchers had their baseballs with them after the game.
