Mekhi Becton delivered a big message to his critics.

He promised to make them eat their words at the conclusion of the mini camp.

He sounded determined to change the narrative after battling injuries and a weight problem. He showed up in a blue shirt for his first media availability since September.

There was a list of perceived negatives. It was lazy. It's out of shape. Bums. It's socks. It's overweight. It is an injury prone. He said he put the words on the shirt because he has a chip on his shoulder.

He missed 16 games last season due to knee surgery and has a lot to prove.

After skipping the voluntary portion of the off-season, he trained in Texas, where his girlfriend gave birth to their first child last month. The condition of his knee was one of the questions.

Neither Robert nor Becton gave any information about his weight. He was not as effusive about the players as he usually is. He didn't compliment him even though he wasn't critical.

The start of training camp gives him 40 days to get ready to play football.

The man who ballooned his weight as high as 400 last season said he was satisfied with his current weight. He said his knee is getting better. As he worked with the performance staff, he did not wear a brace or sleeve.

When training camp begins on July 27th, he expects Becton to practice.

He's fine, according to Saleh. It is just a matter of him getting back into football movements.

The Jets have been careful not to criticize him, even though he made a public appeal for him to attend the voluntary workouts. He was overweight at the time of his injury, but he was in the best shape of his life at the time.

His weight will change a lot over the next three days. It's interesting.

Concerns about his durability have been raised by the fact that he has played only eight complete games. He injured his knee in the opener of the year. Initially, the team said he would be out for six to eight weeks, but never ruled him out for the rest of the season. People in the Becton camp were angry that the timetable made them think his injury wasn't significant.

He hit a wall while trying to return. I was not able to get the strength I needed.

After the season, Saleh claimed that George Fant would have to win back his starting job at left tackle if he wanted to keep it. Since then, the Jets have been evasive on their plans at tackle. He doesn't mind competing and would be okay with a position change.

He said it was football. No matter what, we're going to compete. I need to get my job back.

The Jets could've taken a top tackle in the first round, but they decided to go with the two they already have. Fant had an off-season knee procedure. He's going for training.

"Obviously, we're all aware of the talent he has, and that's why we're here," he said. He is smart. He can become great if he takes care of his business.
