Following a number of state bills that seek to ban trans care, require trans youth to use only the bathroom that matches their sex at birth, and allow parents to question the sex of a student athlete, Biden issued an order in a Pride Month speech.

The executive order directed the Department of Health and Human Services to update its guidance in order to restrict federal funding for conversion therapy.

Senior White House officials argue that conversion therapy is dangerous and discredited because it increases the risk of youth suicide.

In a press call Wednesday, Biden said he was leaving it to the Department of Health and Human Services to lead an initiative to end conversion therapy in the U.S.

The Department of Education is being directed by Biden to issue a school policy to achieve full inclusion for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer students.
