Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the Star Wars film by Taika Waititi would be going ahead, but she didn't mention any of the storylines, characters, or even the time period it would be set in. In an interview with Total Film, Waititi stated that he would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world.
Kennedy had said in an interview that there was a need to create a whole new saga. The relationship between the Skywalker family and the Palpatine family has dominated the universe of Star Wars for the best part of a century. Disney will be able to produce three to four television series per year for the next two decades because of the inspiration from deep lore.
Waititi has taken franchises and made them better. I will admit that the first two movies were okay. Waititi brought in new characters, including some of his New Zealand friends, and introduced more than three colors into the movie. I would like to propose that the actor who appeared with Waititi in Our Flag Means Death be given an opportunity to play a Jedi. They are a huge fan of Star Wars and have a lot of fencing experience. Think about it if you're reading this Waititi. Not all Star Wars characters can be edited out for international censors. That would be a new thing.
