Image for article titled Your Recalled Ford Might Unexpectedly Roll Away

One of the first things we learn when we learn to drive is how to shift the vehicle into different gears. The car can roll away if it is in neutral and you are on a hill. That can happen in a vehicle with a detached shift cable. That is the reason Ford is recalling nearly three million of its vehicles. This is what to know.

Why are Ford vehicles being recalled?

More than two million Ford vehicles are being recalled because they may have damaged or missing parts that prevent drivers from shifting into their intended gear. There is a chance that the vehicle will move in a different direction and cause accidents if it is put in a park.

There are at least six reports of property damage and four reports of injury related to the rollaway concern out of the nearly three million vehicles included in this recall. The company told the NHTSA that it had identified 1, 630 warranty reports and 233 other reports related to the problem.

Which vehicles are part of the recall?

Some Ford vehicles may have a defect.

  • Escape (2013-2019)
  • C-Max (2013-2018)
  • Fusion (2013-2016)
  • Transit Connect (2013-2021 )
  • Edge (2015-2018)

What to do if you own one of the recalled vehicles

If you own one of the vehicles listed above, it doesn't mean yours is potentially dangerous: Of the nearly three million that may have this defect, the NHTSA estimates that it's in one percent of the vehicles.

The letters will be sent by June 27. You can call Ford customer service if you don't want to wait to find out if your car is in the right gear. The number for this recall is 22S 43.
