Jack Sweeney stopped following Mark Cuban's jets after he contacted him.
In exchange for the account being disabled, the billionaire gave the teen business advice.
He was in the news this year after he refused an offer from Musk to remove his account.
The teen who turned down a $5,000 offer to stop tracking Musk's private jet said he stopped sharing Cuban's travel history on social media after the billionaire became concerned about his privacy.
Cuban and Jack Sweeney went back and forth over the account over the course of four months.
The deal between the teen and billionaire sheds light on the daily privacy concerns of public figures like Cuban. Last year, Meta paid over twenty million dollars for private jet travel for the founder of Facebook.
Are you not worried about the safety of the jets? Cuban reached out to Sweeney on the social networking site in February.
Some people on this platform are not stable. Cuban told Sweeney that many can be dangerous. He told them to tell him what they wanted so that he could end the risk to his family.
Cuban said the messages were legit. The account was taken down for a few weeks after he reported it for being fake.
According to Sweeney, the accounts don't pose a major security issue as the data is already online via public air traffic- tracking sites. He puts the data on the social networking site.
"I'm willing to take down some of the accounts, but I'm not going to do it for nothing," Sweeney said.
Over the past few months, the teen has begun tracking a wide range of aircrafts from stars like Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift to political and tech figures. The accounts took some time to set up, but now he can put them together in 15 minutes.
After Cuban offered to give him future support, Sweeney appeared to agree to disabling the jets in the spring. The account has over 3000 followers. Cuba's travel data has not been shared since April 7. Sweeney told Insider that he is still following the billionaire on his Discord and that he is no longer sharing the data to Twitter.
Cuban told Sweeney that he would be his friend for the rest of his life if he ended this. I think it's more important for you to have Elon as a friend for the rest of your life than it is for you to own aTesla. If you ever start a business, I would be happy to help you.
The teen told Insider that he was disappointed by Cuban's offer. Cuban agreed to meet with him at the Dallas Mavericks game after following up with a request. The date has not been set.
He tried to get me to take it down but he didn't put in the effort.
The billionaire was unaware that the account had stopped sharing his flight data, but said he would not take any further action against Sweeney if he stopped tracking his travel.
Cuban said he would answer his business questions.
After Musk said he didn't like the idea of being shot by a nutcase, Sweeney asked him for $50,000 or a car if he would take down the account that tracks his jets. Shortly after he made the counter offer, Musk blocked Sweeney on social media.
The public response to Sweeney's work has been mixed since he was catapulted into the spotlight. He said he's received threats from Musk fans, but some of the people he tracks seem unbothered by the attention
