It took several hours for someone to fix the mistake. Customers flooded the station to take advantage of the deal, costing the establishment $16,000 before the mistake was fixed.
Szczecina said he was fired for making a mistake.
Szczecina said that he put all three prices on there but the last one didn't go.
He said that he took responsibility for it and blamed himself.
Customers were able to fill up their tanks on a gas price that hadn't been seen in more than four decades. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the last time gas cost less was in 1978.
Consumers have been paying more for gas for a while. The average price for a gallon of gas in California was $6.435 as of Wednesday morning. The average price of gas is $5.014 a gallon.
A person claiming to be Szczecina's sister is trying to raise money to repay lost revenue as Szczecina is worried about being sued. It raised over $6,000 on Wednesday.
Szczecina did not reply immediately.
