After a month of testing in Las Vegas, the Project Genesis 5G cellular plan was made available to the public in over 120 US cities. It had to launch it by June 14th according to an agreement with the government. It would have to pay millions of dollars in fines.

We decided to order a phone to test out the service, which is based on some new tech and offers unlimited calls, texts, and data for $30 a month, because we had tracked the progress of the company for a long time. Gamification and rewards are also in the mix. I was given the task of testing it because I live in the city that the service is supposedly going to roll out to. Signing up for the service was a lot of work, as we ran into issues, bugs, and inexplicable behavior from the Project Genesis website. We contacted Dish for comment but haven't heard back yet.

As soon as I hit launch, the problems began. Clicking on the button gave me the option to enter my email and home address. I was told by the site that I didn't have a valid address, even though the service wasn't available at my house.

We tried to enter addresses in several supposedly supported cities, but the site told us they were invalid. This wasn't a situation where we were incorrect in the way we formatted the addresses. You can use the addresses on the Project Genesis website to fill out the form. The addresses it had provided weren't acceptable.

Clicking the suggested addresses fills them into the field, seemingly accurately. Yet the site would still reject them. (PS: no, that’s not my address; it’s a local park.) And no, I don’t know why it’s listed twice. That appears to be a frequent bug on the site.

Genesis is live in my area after dozens of attempts at entering my address. I was asked to choose which device I wanted to use. There are two choices, a black and white one, and both have a wireless hotspot. There isn't an option to just order a sim card kit for those who already have an S22, but it is possible. You can't bring your own phone if you're sure it supports all of Project Genesis' transmission technologies

I didn't want to put $400 on the line for a new phone because I already had a new phone. The Project Genesis Smart 5G unlimited plan was the only plan available for phones.

The checkout page was broken as well. There wasn't a way to enter my apartment number. TheAddress 2 field looks like you can add information to it, but if you click on it or try to tab into it, it doesn't work. The address field on the website is locked to the home page. If you put a unit number into that field, it won't show up on the payment page. I tested this on three different browsers to make sure the issue happened in each one.

No matter what I tried, I could not get the “Address 2” field filled in.

I went into the web inspector in an attempt to turn off the lock, hoping that whatever stored procedure handled this intake form would just read the data from the field, but the fields are set to read only in a way that my browser couldn't change.

I thought about sending it to my mom's house since apartments, townhouses, and many condos were not an option. She lives on the other side of the country, but she doesn't know where her service is. After I entered her address many times, the site accepted it and showed me a message saying "Project Genesis is lighting up in your area soon!" It was clear I couldn't have the phone relayed to me from her house since her city is in the list of " 120 plus" places.

After joking with my wife, I asked if any of her friends would accept a package for me. She didn't know what I was trying to get shipped that couldn't be sent to our house.

Her place of employment. There is a building with a unit number thatBecky gets stuff shipped to.

Her work address was entered into the Genesis website. I was able to go through the process of selecting a phone after I thought about it for a moment. I got to the checkout page with an address that didn't need any changes. This was the final one. The last hurdle. I used my credit card to join the project.

The transaction was denied by my Apple card. I said that it wasn't true. 'Lmao' is a word.

Email from Apple saying that it had declined Dish’s charge.
I can’t really blame you for that one, Apple and Goldman.

It is possible that my card flagged it because the address the system was trying to use isn't the one I have registered at. You can say "let this through" by pressing a button. I submitted the form again after accepting it.

I was told that I was on my way to experience the nation's first Smart 5G network. I received an email with my order details and an email with a temporary password for the Genesis app so I can log in and start earning exclusive.

The password and instructions on how to use it are not visible to the reader. I can't wait to use this phone and test the network.

I didn’t blank out the password. This is just what the email looks like.
