Escape the chaos of Djemaa El Fna in the Koutoubia Gardens

The easiest place to escape the chaos of Djemaa El Fna is the Koutoubia Gardens, located next to the mosque. There is a short walk from the main entrance to the western side of the square.

Visitors can stroll through the shaded pathways and see the mosque through the rose bushes and oranges. Before you attempt to navigate your way back to your riad, it is a good idea to collect your thoughts in the gardens.

Hide away in Le Jardin Secret

Le Jardin Secret is hidden in a riad of Arab andalusian architecture in the heart of the medina. The team behind this privately owned palatial garden seems to have achieved the impossible by creating two separate botanical spaces from scratch.

The Islamic Garden area recreates heaven as described in the Quran, and is located in the Exotic Garden section. The original irrigation system under the medina is still visible, as is a spring that feeds water to the greenery.

There are a lot of things to do in Marrakesh.

Step back in time in the Agdal Garden

The Agdal Garden was once the most important garden in the city. It is now protected by the UN. There are oranges, dates, lemons, figs, walnuts, and pomegranates in the groves along the southern edge of the walled medina.

There are a lot of day trips from Marrakesh.

Find some serenity by the water at Menara Gardens

The Menara Gardens were established by the Almohads. The Menara Gardens have a large basin that was used to irrigate the surrounding groves and orchards.

Water from the mountains is brought to the water basins in the distance and then feeds the groves and orchards all year. You can take a picture of the green-tiled pavilion shimmering in the reflection of the vast pool of water while the High Atlas stand tall in the background.

Take a day trip to Anima Garden in the High Atlas foothills

Located in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, Anima Garden is an easy way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and discover more of the country.

The garden has a lot of flora and fauna and is designed by an artist. There are sculptures in the pathways and flower beds.

There is a free shuttle service that will take you to Anima Garden if you rent a car. The village of Setti Fatma and its seven waterfalls are located within easy reach of the Ourika Valley. If you don't want to head back into the medina in Marrakesh just yet, you can relax with a saffron tea by the river.
