Sen. Raphael Warnock says that January 6 Capitol attack shows that 'our democracy is in peril'

The US is at risk of losing its democracy according to a senator.

He is Georgia's first black senator since he was elected in 2020. The church where Martin Luther King Jr. attended is where he is currently a pastor.

Democracy is not easy. The word democracy is not a word. Our democracy continues to grow over time. The ideals get closer to it. In an interview with NPR's Mary Louise Kelly, Warnock said that there are times when it contracts, but that it can also open the possibility for a new birth.

The January 6 Capitol attack, in which hundreds of rioters broke into the US Capitol in an effort to overturn the 2020 election, shows the troubled state of democracy.

There is no doubt. The Reverend said that our democracy is in danger.

Georgia sent a black man and a Jewish man, both mentors by John Lewis, to the Senate.

Jon Ossoff beat former Republican Sen. David Perdue in a January run-off by 1%.

January 6th and the Georgia election are indicative of America's core values, according to him.

Which way are we going to take? It's our responsibility as citizens to push ourselves closer to our ideals.
