The Daniels' Everything Everywhere All at Once is full of weird, wonderful and random moments that reward both the first time and repeat viewer. The sight of Harry Shum dressed as a chef in an alternate-timeline spoof of Pixar's Ratatouille is one of the highlights.
Don't worry, the animal was a fake, but it was made to look like one. The approach for "Raccacoonie" was decided on by the filmmakers. The Ringer featured a behind the scenes look at the makeup and effects supervisor who worked on the movie. "You have to think about the challenges of, you have an actor and we have to mount it to his head." Are we going to make puppets? Is it going to be animatical? The directors challenged him to find a solution to the budget problem. The guys wanted to know if they could think cheap. We don't want it to be nice. It should look silly. The challenge was that. I'm not going. It was cool and funny.
Shum, who plays the Alfredo in the movie, had a backpack made out of a stuffed animal and mounted on it. The actor was willing to go to the places the Daniels wanted to go. Shum said the initial response was "What the fuck?" "And, 'Yes, please'"
The full story on Raccacoonie can be found here. Everything Everywhere All At Once will be released on June 21.
