Klay Thompson and you have something in common if you have ever walked around your city and passed someone who looked like you. During the team's championship run, he impersonated Thompson, fooling people into thinking he was the Warriors' sharp shooter.
He got into trouble because of his success with the scam. He has been banned from Chase Center for the rest of his life. The morning of Game Five of the NBA Finals, Gurley strolled through multiple security checkpoint and ended up on the court. He produced a letter that looked like it came from one of the Warriors security officials.
Since he picked up the fake Klay persona, it is difficult to know if he is serious or playing a prank. There is a person that plays prank on people. That's his personality. For now, we don't know if this ban is real or if it's part of a bigger plot.
Deadspin tried to get in touch with the Warriors and Chase Center security, but they didn't reply. There are a lot of burning questions at the moment. The one that should be punished is Mr. Gurley. Isn't a lifetime ban a bit harsh? Who took the photo of him on the court if he snuck in? It is security's job to keep it safe. He got all the way down to the court before anyone noticed.
Klay was able to take advantage of the opportunity because of the lack of security. It's amazing that he made it through multiple security checks. Security at the NBA Finals should pay more attention to what is happening.
If this is true, it will be a shame, as fans around the bay have come to love his antics in imitating Thompson. He has been able to fool a few people with his act. The fan didn't want to tell his sister that she met a fake Klay in front of Chase Center hours before the game.
If the Celtics can push the series to seven games, we will know if the ban is real or not.
Deadspin got a statement from the Warriors at 2:39PM.
“An individual falsely impersonated a Warriors player in a deliberate attempt to access unauthorized areas within Chase Center. These actions have resulted in a lifetime ban from both Chase Center and Kaiser Permanente Arena.”
