The series about people risking their lives and sometimes killing one another on television in order to pay off their debts is becoming a game show.
The streamer shared its plans to expand the Battle Royale-esque franchise with a real world game show inspired by the fictional competition at the center of the original series. The winner of the Squid Game: The Challenge will get a 4.56 million dollar prize, but only one player can actually claim it.
The promotional video for Squid Game: The Challenge features scenes from the fictional game, but it's not clear what obstacles will be thrown at contestants. In a public statement about the new game show, Brandon Riegg, vice president of unscripted and documentary series for the streaming service, said that the series' worldwide success was one of the reasons for turning it into a show for the public.
Riegg said they were grateful for his support as they turned the fictional world into reality. Fans of the drama series will be in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest cash prize at the end.
