Sources said that after skipping the final week of voluntary team activities, the Cowboys tight end showed up for this week's mandatory mini camp.
If he had not attended the mini camp, he would have been fined more than $95,000 over the three days.
He told the Cowboys that he wouldn't be at theOTAs with the hope of getting a long-term deal done. While talks have picked up recently, a deal is not considered close as the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on him. If the sides can't reach an agreement by July 15, he'll have to play on the tag.
Over the past two seasons, Shultz has caught 141 passes, including 78 for808 yards and 8 touchdown. He was the only tight end to have at least 75 catches, 800 yards and eight touchdown in a season.
The Cowboys have used the franchise tag on three different players in the last two years. After the team used the tag on them a second time, they were able to reach long-term agreements.
