The survey found that 5% of Americans ages 18 to 29 identify as trans or non-binary. Some people in the 30 to 45 age group identified as trans or non-binary, while others in the 50 or older group did not.

Louisiana became the 18th state to pass an anti-trans sports ban last week, as a host of Republican-led legislatures have proposed or enacted legislation targeting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans community. If the governor of Louisiana does not veto the legislation, it will become law at the end of the session. Similar bans have been passed in other states. A growing number of Americans say they know someone who is trans. Critics argue that trans females have an unfair physical advantage over cis females because of their higher testosterone levels. Trans athletes are just as athletic as cis gender athletes, according to supporters.

It was 499. Thomas moved from the men's division of the NCAA to the women's division in order to compete in the 200 yard freestyle. Thomas had a fifth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle in the NCAA championship. When she competed for the men's team, she was ranked 556th. The NCAA changed its rules in January to allow for individual sports to determine whether or not a person can compete. More than 300 college professional swimmers signed a letter in March supporting Thomas, despite 16 of her teammates signing a letter not supporting her. In her first on-camera interview since becoming a central figure in the debate, Thomas said trans people don't transition for athletics, they transition to be happy.
