Jack Del Rio apologized in front of the team Tuesday for his comments last week in which he referred to the events at the U.S Capitol as a "dustup."

Washington coach Ron Rivera said that Del Rio's apology was received well and that his assistant has met with several players to discuss his comments.

Jack apologized and was open to questions after speaking to the team this morning. If you have a question, come see me and I'll talk about it. It was enjoyable. I'm trying to reconcile.

Rivera fined Del Rio $100,000 because of his comments. Rivera denied that he asked Del Rio to take his account down.

Rivera said that this was not about the fact that he was able to speak his mind. This is about what happened to the team. The First Amendment is very important to me.

It is a very serious question and topic, but at the end of the day it affected us. I did what I did because of that.

The "dustup" was used by Del Rio as he defended his reply to someone on the social networking site. The summer of riots, loot, burning and the destruction of personal property is never discussed, but Del Rio would like to know why.

A franchise that has stayed in the headlines for much of the past two years for non- football issues, did not benefit from Del Rio's explanation and Tweets. The organization changed its name to the Commanders as a result of the congressional investigation into its owner. He was invited to testify by congress.

The attorney generals of Virginia and D.C. are looking into allegations of financial improprieties.

Rivera kept a copy of the First Amendment on his desk. He compared it when he was in Carolina to when he was there.

Rivera asked Eric to help him comprehend. "He did" I was shown what it was all about by him. The same thing happened in Jack's case. Responsibility is one of the things we have to understand with rights and freedom.

Rivera said Del Rio told him he would be fined. They had another meeting Tuesday morning. According to Rivera, Del Rio was not told that he would be fired.

Rivera said that he and Jack had a conversation that would stay between them.

"Referencing that situation as a dust-up was irresponsible and negligent and I apologize," Del Rio said in a statement. I stand by my words. While also expressing my support for peaceful protest in our country.
