A key hurdle has been cleared for the launch of a giant, futuristic rocketship.

The FAA concluded an environmental review of the base. More than 75 actions are required to reduce impacts to the region despite the agency seeing no significant environmental concerns.

According to the FAA, other factors such as safety and financial responsibility requirements still need to be met in order to get a launch license.

The first flight test of Starship is one step closer.

The most powerful rocket ever built is supposed to carry people to the moon and Mars. It will be used for NASA's lunar landing of astronauts no later than 25 years from now.

Over the past year, the bullet-shaped upper stage has been launched several miles into the air, but it hasn't flown atop a Super Heavy booster.

The residents opposed the launches and landings due to the noise and the fact that the crashed flights rained down on them. As part of the FAA report, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service insisted on additional measures, but noted operations were not likely to jeopardize the habitats of the threatened species.

The site is located at the southernmost tip of Texas, about 1,000 miles from the International Space Station.
