The company has announced that it is adding a new voice mode that will garble any voice chat from non- friends on the virtual reality platform. By default, you will hear all nearby users at the same volume, but if you turn on the garbage voices option, you will hear friendlier sounds. According to Meta, the feature will be rolled out soon.
The feature can be used to make users feel safer. There have been reports of harassment that users have experienced on the social virtual reality platform. Meta introduced a "personal boundary" system in February that prevents other users from entering your personal space.
An icon above your display name indicates that you can't hear what people are saying when you use Voice Mode. If you want to temporarily unmute them, you can raise your hand in the game and use a motion controller.
The Voice Mode feature is shown alongside a separate toggle that allows you to completely remove non- friends from your list. It's thought that allowing you to hear their voices in garbled form is a compromise so you can still hear the social hubbub of a room without being subjected to potentially abusive comments from strangers.
The service was launched in the UK. The USA and Canada are the other countries to have seen the release of the movie. A core part of the company's pitch is the ability for creators to build their own levels for other players to experience.
