A million-dollar auction bid on a private John Legend performance was included in a speech by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy told the supporters of Penn's CORE charity of the peaceful cities and villages wiped off the face of the earth.
He said that Russian forces had destroyed schools, hospitals, theaters, museums and entire streets. There was a video that showed devastation in Ukranian as well as more hopeful scenes.
He told the audience at the Hollywood Palladium that all of this was not the scenery of a movie about the apocalypse. Our reality is all of this.
The video was uploaded by Zelenskyy's office.
Zelenskyy talked about how US stars accepted plaster Oscars during World War II to address metal shortages.
He said that this is a symbolic gesture that doesn't have a big impact on the war.
We can't say that the world would have defeated the Nazis without a piece of metal. It is not possible to say yes. We don't know if it's true. Any help is valuable and important.
John Legend performed at the dinner event, which was attended by Bill Clinton, Sharon Stone, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. According to the outlet, Legend played a song on the piano.
Variety says that one bidder spent $1 million on a private home performance from Legend, but it's not clear how much was raised in the auction.
