According to Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume, many Republicans are hoping that the House select committee will ruin Donald Trump's chances of running for president again in four years.
The attacks on the U.S. Capitol are being investigated by a House committee. It was shown in the second hearing that Trump and his inner circle knew his claims of a rigged election were false but used them to raise money and stay in power.
The host of the show asked if the committee was trying to make a legal or political case against the president.
I think they're doing both.
If they succeed in damaging him or staining him such that he is unable for legal or political reasons to run again, they might find out that they have done the Republican Party a great service.
Many Republicans think they can't win with Trump at the top of the ticket again.
They don't want to come out against him because of his supporters' fear. They want him to leave. I think a lot of Republicans would be very happy if the committee made his candidacy disappear.

The committee is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans, two of whom have criticized Trump in the past.
Tim Miller was a former spokesman for the Republican National Committee and writer for The Bulwark.
Conservatives and Fox News viewers criticized the commentary. In January 2021, the conservative analyst said that the former president's claims of election fraud were likely to lead to the Capitol riot.
