Due to the risk of rockslides and heavy flooding, the entrances to the park have been closed and some areas have been evacuated.
The National Park Service closed the entrances to the park for all visitors late Monday morning due to rock slides and mud slides.
The park will cut off all inbound traffic for at least the next two days while staff assess the damage.
The northern part of the park is being evacuated and tourists will be moved out of the southern part of the park later Monday.
Sholly said that parts of the park will probably be closed for a long time due to flooding.
As the summer season begins, the closures come as a result. The busiest June on record for a national park was last June when more than 30,000 visits were made.
The Pacific Northwest experienced heavy rain last week and the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for parts of Wyoming that include the park.
