The Future of will be arriving on June 21st, with a second set of episodes arriving on June 28th.
The Future Of is an ambitious look at how the world will change over time. It's a show about everything, from cheeseburgers to skyscrapers and life after death. We tried to imagine how these things would change in our lifetimes, the near future, and then the craziest futures we could imagine. We did it by talking to the people working on the ideas, as well as a few reporters. It's a documentary for the future.
We wanted the predictions to be entertaining. We wanted them to be strange. Some of them should be a little bit frightening. One of my rules for the show was that we shouldn't casually predict a worldwide surveille network, a concept that a lot of other ideas seem to depend on. There is no guarantee that this will happen.
Science and technology aren't just things that happen People work hard to invent things, people use those inventions in surprising ways, and a new world is always coming into focus. If we put our minds to it, we want to make a show that makes people feel excited and hopeful about the future.
Rose Eveleth and her team at flash forward came aboard as story producers, helping us build a vision of the future that is at once roots in reality and deeply fantastic, and Josh Barry and his team at 21 Laps Entertainment. The show was pushed to be great at every turn by the teams at the two studios.
There will be two batches of six episodes. The first six will be about the future.
The second set will be about The Future of.
