Donald Trump commanded attention within the Republican party from its donor class to the highest levels of GOP leadership.

According to The Washington Post, some of the donors who lined up behind Trump in the past are hoping that the party will pick a new candidate in the next election.

Several individuals who spoke with The Post said that some in the high-dollar GOP donor world who backed Trump in 2020 are now fearful of another candidacy by the former president.

The Republicans need to move past the former president according to some of the donors. According to the report, several Republicans are uneasy about a third Trump candidacy because they think it would benefit Democrats.

A GOP advisor with ties to major donors told The Post that Republicans think he is no longer relevant. People think they need to appease him. In the appeasement phase, we are in.

In addition, some GOP activists have quietly griped that Trump doesn't speak about inflation and high gas prices as much as he should, noting that those issues are vulnerabilities that he could use against the president.

The Consumer Price Index rose 8.6% in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Gas prices have gone up since last week.

Chris Christie told The Post that he would be willing to run against Trump in a GOP primary if the opportunity arose.

Christie said that there was more and more doubt about the president's claims that the election was stolen. They care about what's happening to them.

Since he left the White House last year, Donald Trump has been teasing a presidential run in 2024 and has endorsed his preferred candidates in primaries.
