It is early Monday morning for most of you, but the work week began early for Engadget, with the Summer Game Fest showing. We were expecting a lot of announcements, trailers and things to have strong opinions on, given how many game studios Microsoft has.

There were a lot of familiar Xbox reveals, including more Forza announcements, as well as a lot of new information about the upcoming games.

Starfield will be the next big game from the company. There was a lot of No Man's Sky vibes in the first look at the game. The people behind the series are the ones who are behind it.

I am not concerned about missing out at this point. I'm pretty sure we haven't even scratched the surface of what Starfield will offer, but unless the evocative musical score is included, I'm intrigued. Resource mining is just No Man's Sky.

There are more important announcements from the Summer Game Fest below.

The person is Mat Smith.

Lemoine told The Washington Post that he thinks one of the company's artificial intelligence projects has achieved sentience.

From an extended chat script between LaMDA and Lemoine, the chatbot said it felt like it was trapped and alone. Lemoine doesn't have a lot of evidence to support his statements. He admits to The Washington Post that his claims are based on his experiences as a priest.

'Diablo IV' lands in 2023 with necromancers and an open world

A game once rescheduled indefinitely.

TMA

At the Summer Game Fest showcase, there was going to be an announcement about the game. We knew as far back as November of last year that a direct sequel was coming. It's going to land sometime in the next few years.

The developers are promising a different style of Diablo game, with open-world exploration, deeper character customization, and yes, you will be able to play as a necromancer, which was my character of choice back in the heady days of the first game.
