A former White House adviser says the administration needs to set goals.
Biden has failed to lead America on moral issues, according to David Gergen.
Gergen worked in the White House during several administrations.
David Gergen, a former White House adviser, said on Sunday that it's difficult to see what President Joe Biden's administration is doing.
Gergen said he thought Biden was going to be a very consequential leader. I thought they would make him stronger for the presidency because of how he has dealt with setbacks in his life.
Gergen, who served four sitting presidents, said that it's difficult to tell what the goals are.
He said Biden's administration needs to focus on two or three major goals in both domestic and foreign policy in order to get things done.
Gergen said that he didn't fully understand the comment that Biden has low approval ratings because of his policies. The messaging has not been his strongest asset.
Biden usually schedules his announcements in the afternoon.
Do it in prime time if you have something to say to the Americans. He said that they could handle 15 to 20 minutes.
Gergen said that Biden needs to lead the Americans on moral issues. He said that the leader's role was to be a teacher.
Roosevelt believed that moral leadership is all about the president making choices and trying to bring people along on difficult issues.
He said there has not been a lot of that.
Gergen was concerned about the ages of potential primary candidates Biden and Trump in the presidential election in 2020. Biden is older than Trump at 78 years old.
We haven't been there before. I don't believe that is healthy. Gergen said that the presidency is too complex and requires fine judgement.
