He was just four hundredths of a second off the world record that was set in 2012 at a Diamond League event.

Allen said he thought he could break the record. Four hundredths of a second is four thousandths of a second per hurdle. I'm going to have to wait.

The silver medal winner in the Tokyo Olympics, Grant Holloway, finished second to Allen on Sunday. At the Olympic Track and Field Trials last year, he ran the second-fastest time in the history of the event, at 12.81, in the semifinals.

Allen has finished in the top five in the hurdles at the past two Olympics.

The Eagles signed Allen to a three year contract in April. He hasn't played a game of football in two years. Allen ran an unofficial 4.35-second 40-yard dash at Oregon's pro day in April, catching the attention of scouts.

At Oregon's pro day, he told reporters that he was going to compete at the USA Track & Field outdoor Championships later this month and the World athletics Championships in July, before focusing on football.
