There was a major malfunction shortly after the launch of the rocket, which was carrying two small satellites.

There was a second stage failure after the rocket lifted off from a pad at the Space Force Station in Florida. The sun rises at 1743GMT. Two NASA cubesats were the first of a six-satellite fleet to track hurricanes.

Astra's senior manager for first stage and engine production said during live launch commentary that the upper stage engine shut down early and that they didn't deliver their payloads to the space station.

"We have shared our regrets with the team at NASA," officials said in a new update on their website. After completing a full data review, more information will be given. The launch was supposed to take place at 12 pm. The delay was due to a fueling issue and a boat in the launch zone.

On June 12, 2022, the launch vehicle for the NASA TROPICS hurricanes satellites will lift off from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The footage was provided by NASASpaceflight.

The first satellites of NASA's Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation structure and storm Intensity with a constellation of Smallsats were carried by the LV0010 mission. It was the first of three planned missions this year, each carrying two NASA TROPICS satellites about the size of a loaf of bread, to complete the Hurricane-watching constellation. The company's three-mission TROPICS deal with NASA is worth more than 7 million dollars.

"TROPICS will give us very frequent views of tropical cyclones, providing insight into their formation, intensification, and interactions with their environment and providing critical data for storm monitoring and forecasting," Scott Braun said in

NASA hoped to keep an eye on hurricanes and tropical storms by using three pairs of TROPICS satellites. It's not clear if the agency can still do that with just four satellites, or if the two that were lost will be replaced.

Sunday's failed launch is the second of its kind this year. In February, the company failed to launch four NASA cubesats as part of the ELaNa 41 mission, a flight that was also staged from its Florida launch pad.

The company had launched four previous test flights before the LV0009 rocket lifted off from the Pacific Spaceport Complex on Alaska's Kodiak Island. The company's first successful launch took place in November of 2011.
