One of the most popular icons of Japanese culture is the Kamen Rider franchise. 1987's Kamen Rider Black is the only show that doesn't have the franchise's name on it. With the franchise now 50 years old, and other Rider stuff in the works, it's the perfect time to revisit that important series in the form of a reboot.
The Black Sun webseries was announced last year. The previous series had a family friendly vibe but that series was geared towards older fans. The first trailer for Black Sun gives an idea of what a more mature Rider series will look like as it focuses on the show's eponymous Black Sun Rider. He walks through the streets of Japan and looks like he is just going through the motions. The man who will become the Black Moon Rider is shown a few times.
When it first came out in 1987, it was a big deal. It was the first show to not be tied to any of the other shows that came before it. The shows marked the end of the Showa Era, and the series would live on through films, stage plays, and music CDs. It wasn't until the beginning of the Heisei Era that the franchise came back to television.
There will be a limited series on Amazon Prime Video. The first poster shows our two riders and their insect-themed suits.
