PC Magazine is reporting that Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is interested in partnering with Musk's Starlink to bring wi-fi to its ships.
Musk has a satellite internet called Starlink that is gaining popularity. Although not as fast as fiber, the internet service is becoming a strong option for travel related businesses.
Hawaiian Airlines is working with Starlink to provide free wi-fi.
The potential partnership was reported to the FCC in a public filing.
The company said that they have identified a next generation solution for their vessels that meets the rigorous technical and operational requirements.
It has always been a problem for cruise lines to provide wi-fi on their ships. It is very slow if not completely unavailable. Starlink's application to operate on moving vehicles has yet to be approved by the FCC.
The government agency is being pushed to approve the plan by RCCL.
