"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" had a "clandestine set romance" between Matthew Broderick and his on-screen brother, according to " Out of the Corner".

Grey wrote that he was as surprised as anyone when their relationship became off-screen.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was released in 1986.

Ferris, played by Broderick, is an optimist who pretends to be sick and skips school so he can go on a trip with his friends. His sister tries to prove that he is playing hooky in the film.

Grey and Broderick had a secret rendezvous while filming and hid it from the cast and crew.

"You're living one of those bedroom farces, padding down the carpeted hallway, barefoot in your robe, or in various stages of undress," Grey wrote about staying discreet while everyone lived together in the same hotel during filming The other guests' doors have rows of peep holes that feel like an army of eyeballs watching you.

Older movies tended to be very clear about who the villain was supposed to be, but many newer movies and TV shows hide the villain until just the right moment for the big reveal.

Grey recalled being in Broderick's room and the actor's sudden change in demeanor when he bolted up and signaled for her to be quiet.

When I questioned him about this mystery woman, he told me she was not his girlfriend but a close family friend who fancied him.

Grey said she was in denial that she was the other woman, or that she was a girl. She said that it boiled down to what she wanted.

The actors ended their relationship after filming ended.

Grey told Matthew he couldn't see him anymore after realizing he was in love with him. We were together after he broke up with his friend.

Grey said thatMatthew felt like his guy.

The couple had a brief engagement in 1988. In an interview with Drew Barrymore, Grey said that she went from being engaged to Broderick to being engaged to Johnny Depp in a single month.

Broderick didn't reply to Insider's request for comment.
