Street Fighter 6 made a good first impression. I went hands-on with its traditional 1v1 Fighting Ground experience at Summer Game Fest Play days, and it made an equally strong impression.

  • A Visual Marvel

Street Fighter 6 is a wonderful game to look at. The new drive gauge and modern control type make it even better. Street Fighter 6 seems prepared to take on the challenge of being the next grand mainline entry in the series.

I was given the chance to play the game with four characters: Ryu, Chun-Li, Ryu, and Jamie. The redesigns of Ryu and Chun-Li look great, as well as the styles of the newcomers. Street Fighter 6 is one of the prettiest games on the market.

The characters in Street Fighter 6 are incredibly detailed and colorful. The alleyways of Metro City and the Genbu Temple were lively and lively, and pre-game presentation always got me excited as the Street Fighter characters pumped themselves up for the fight.

Fights and special moves are not as visually busy as you might think. Drive Impacts give these disruptive moves more satisfying visual feedback by creating gorgeous paint-like streaks across the screen. Street Fighter 6 will be one of the prettiest fighting games of all time.

Street Fighter 6 is loaded fast on PS5. I was able to stay around for even longer than my demo time because of those quick load times.

A delicious combo meal

Street Fighter titles have been very well received. The last few Street Fighters have focused on evolving the combo-based gameplay that sets a standard in the genre. Street Fighter 6 is the same as previous ones.

Fight and kick as your favorite characters, stringing together button press and stick movements to pull off wild special moves. When you finally get your hands on Street Fighter 6, you should be able to pull off a Hadoken a Ryu because many of the classic buttons are back.

Players draw from two different meters. Your character can pull off their special moves with the help of the Super gauge. The new Drive Gague allows players to do up to five different offensive and defensive maneuvers. If it depletes, players will take more damage. It doesn't change the fighting game experience, but adds an exciting risk- vs-reward element to each fight

Street Fighter 6 feels like a solid evolution for this classic series, even though I have only played an hour of it. Street Fighter 6 isn't leaving fans out in the cold.

The Modern Control type allows players to execute special moves with simple button presses. Fans who want to see each character's flashiest moves should enjoy this new control scheme because it is easier to understand than a complicated string of button press and stick movements.

Chun-Li kicks Ryu in Street Fighter 6.

The Modern control type makes it feel like you are only doing combo and missing out on the punches and kicks that can make a difference in stringing together moves. This feature will make Street Fighter 6 more accessible. It will make it easier for me to see the cool moves from every character in the roster without having to memorize them.

While Street Fighter 6 doesn't change what fighting games can be, it is a great title that should appeal to fans of the series. At Summer Game Fest Play Days, it was the best game on the show floor and I am excited to play more in the future.

Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2023.
