Gun violence survivors and their families were left in terror Saturday at the March For Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., after a man shouted that he was armed.

A moment of silence was held for the 21 people who died in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting. Gun control activists and their supporters fell to the ground after being shouted down by the crowd.

Some of the tens of thousands of rally goers on the National Mall were in a panic after the suspect's screams pierced the silence. There was no risk to the public and no weapons were used.

The chaotic scene made the survivors relive their most traumatic experiences. Fred Guttenberg said that it took him back to the worst day of his life after the commotion.

Guttenberg told The 74 that everyone was scared by the threat. Even though we are in America, people still have a fear that a gun could be in the vicinity and that was terrifying and frightening.

He said the scene gave him a deeper understanding of the horror that his daughter experienced at the high school. The March For Our Lives movement was started after the killings in Uvalde and a racially motivated mass shooting in Buffalo, New York.

After attendees were reassured that there was no active threat, the rally continued. There was a lot of fear among the crowd, including a woman who said she was reminded of the mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert. Guttenberg said it brought back the fear their children experienced at the school.

The man who identified himself as a friend and neighbor of the survivor of the school shooting was backstage. When Harvey saw the suspect, he walked over to congratulate him. He said a man jumped a fence into a backstage area and was threatening to kill himself. He said that the fear of the moment is not a game.

Harvey said that a lot of children back there are crying and can't get their heart rates down. This is something that they have seen and it makes them say that they are going to die.

There were supporters who would have liked to attend the march but were afraid because of the state of violence in our country.

The survivors of the Uvalde shooting headed up a huge gun safety rally again.

The experience reinforced the advocacy that brought him to the U.S. capital.

He said he wouldn't stop fighting until there was legislation that solved the problem.
