Tom Rice, who was one of just 10 Republicans to vote to impeach Donald Trump, is not going to back down from his vote.
Rice, who is seeking the GOP nomination for a sixth term in his conservative South Carolina congressional district, would not relent to the pressure of the former president calling him a "RINO," meaning "Republican in name only."
Rice told the newspaper that he did not approve of Trump's conduct.
The congressman said that his failure was when the insurrection began.
He watched as it happened. He was happy with the experience. He didn't do anything to stop it. He failed in trying to stop it.
Rice said that a presidential run by the former president wouldn't help the party.
The congressman referred to Trump as the past. I hope he never runs again. He would hurt the Republican Party if he runs again.
We need someone who will bring people together. He is not that person.
Rice was upset that Trump was trying to get GOP voters away from him in the primary.
The congressman wanted the circus to come to town. People are scared of clowns. I don't fear clowns.
Rice said in an interview with ABC News that his vote to impeach Trump was in line with the constitution.
He said that defending the Constitution is a core part of the Republican platform. The conservative vote was the one that happened. I don't have a question in my mind.
He said he'd do it again tomorrow.
